Jazza Diction
Can Ya Dig It? JazzaShort Don't Look Back

Languid Velvet Goddess
Jazza Diction is dedicated to the proposition that music can be entertaining, thought-provoking, literate, challenging and fun. From Oregon's North Coast, Jazza Diction is:
The Irreverant Reverand of Rhyme Jef (aka Warren) Peace
Guitarist Extraordinaire Brian Frech
Bass Master Don Burgett
the Wizard of Woodwind Ray Coffey.
These vetaran musicians, poets and composers craft song and spoken word odysseys driven by a melting pot of jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, reggae and ethnic, giving loving nods to the spirits of Ginsberg, Kerouac, Waits, Marley, Hendrix and Miles Davis.
Their music defies genrefication . . . which is why they invented the word "Jazza." Jazza is music, Daddy-O! The basic elements are similar to jazz in that there is a fundamental rythym structure that never changes and there is always at least one musical part that is consistent. The rest of the musicians play around this foundation, so each time a song is performed, it is slightly (sometimes radically) different than any other time it was performed . . . this makes it jazza.
Jef writes most of the lyrics and poetry for the band and performs most of the vocals. He has been writing poetry since the age of twelve and "plays at" several instruments, including sax, trumpet and bass. His primary function is vocals and writing, though, and he likes it that way. He also handles most of the PR and label work, since the band is on his label . . . yes, Jef of Jazza Diction is our own Jef Peace.
Ray brings amazing skills on saxophone, flute and tres to the mix. He also plays keyboards on occasion and an in at least one song he plays a wooden flute. He's done some of the writing and composing for the groups as well and if that weren't enough, he handles the duties of band manager.
Don's main contribution is bass and fretless bass, but he is an accomplished guitar player, vocalist and percussionist as well. More than a few of Jazza Diction's tunes began life as a bass riff he was working on, so he has to wear the composer's hat as well.
Brian is one of the most amazing guitarists you'll ever hear. This unassuming musician can hold is own with any of them and do it with a style that comes from the heart. You'll never hear him say that, though, he is quite unconvinced of his greatness.
Tim is the latest in a series of drummers. Like Brian, he's unaware of how talented he is. His love of jazz shows in his swing beats and snazzy riffs peppered through the songs. The band is unanimous in their decision that Tim is the Jazza Diction drummer and even if he doesn't realize it, that's what he is.
