Swedish Whistler - "Great Lizard Cuckoo"
A review by Cristy, Score! Magazine - September 2002
Band name: Swedish Whistler - Great Lizard Cuckoo
Location: Sweden, of course!
Initial Impression: I'm all about the drawing of the skimpily clad man bowing before the throne-seated woman!
Notable Lyric: "Can be a saint but just for one, I prefer the Bitchy One". from "Bitchy One"
Factoid: I had decided against making a cheesy ABBA reference when I read that Hans Arnold, who did the artwork for Abba's Greatest Hits album, contributed artwork to their first album!
Serve With: Jamie Lee Curtis in her leiderhosen from "Trading Places" - "I'm Inga from Sveeden" (come on! It's funny!)
Comments: Vocalist Sussi Johansson has a Susanna Hoffs tinge to her voice, but not nearly as nasally or annoying. Blondie on their poppier days shows up in "I wish", and The Pretenders' melody makes an appearance in "Moving Out (Again)". The closing instrumental "Yet Unsung" ends with chittering that harkens back to the John Candy movie where the family spends the summer in a lake cabin and are frequently targetted by racoons. All in all, this album is great collection of upbeat pop tunes for those days sunning yourself with a glass of your favorite cool beverage by your side.
