shiner22 - "Mint"
A review by Kimmie and Cristy, Score! Magazine - September 2002
Band name: Shiner 22 - Mint
Location: Denmark
Initial Impression: Upon hearing opening strains of first track, Cristy says, "What the hell is this? Gregorian fucking chants?"
Notable Lyric: "Put on your daddy's shirt and slip into your mother's shoes" from "Do the Retro".
Factoid: Will be appearing at the International Pop Overthrow in New York, December 2002.
Serve With: Helium
Comments: The entire album screams retro power-pop. "Pollution Gnome" is reminiscent of Supertramp and Queen while "Cupid's Lunatic Park" and "You're All I Want" have a Jellyfish-like feel. Shiner 22 have a propensity for unique and ear-catching intros, such as the chanting in "Holy Guide" and video game effects of "Do the Retro". Their cover of "99 Luftballoons" is worth the purchase price alone; we were floor and chair dancing respectively.
